Meet the Research Team

You'll find a short description of the undergraduate and postgraduate students working in Civil Systems Engineering in the Peer Research Lab below. We're just getting started... Interested in joining us? Contact me.

Postgraduate Students

Karan Titus

Karan is studying the feasibility of using biomass carbon capture and storage (BECCS) in combination with geothermal power generation for carbon-negative geothermal energy. Karan is co-advised with Dr. David Dempsey.

Logan Brunner

Logan is investigating the cascading infrastructure impacts of hazards in NZ and abroad. He is particularly interested in quatifying the indirect impacts and risks. Logan is co-advised with Dr. Tom Logan.

Rafaella Canessa

Rafaella's work focuses on modelling the integrated energy system (i.e., electricity, transport, and heat) to evaluate energy futures in New Zealand, in particular future pathways that include hydrogen integration. She is co-advised with Dr. Jannik Haas.

Stella Steidl

Stella is investigating urban and industrial energy use in New Zealand using open-source geospatial analysis tools. Her research will inform energy regional transition pathways for New Zealand. Stella is co-advised with Dr. Jannik Haas.

Hadi Vat

Hadi is studying the possibilities for sustainable "green" agriculture and farming in New Zealand, with an emphasis on smart energy and land use (e.g., agrivoltaics). He is co-advised with Dr. Jannik Haas.

Akash Handique

Akash is researching sustainable energy transition pathways for the Pacific Islands. His work will model and evaluate plausible future energy scenarios for these remote locations. Akash is co-advised with Dr. Jannik Haas.

Undergraduate Students

Nicole Cameron

Nicole is a final-year Natural Resources Engineering student researching the water embedded in the New Zealand dairy sector and the implications of future projected water availability on this critical industry.

Paige Moriarty

Paige is a third-year Electrical Engineering student working with postgraduate researchers to complete initial data gathering and modelling of Pacific Island energy systems.

Eshan Lee

Eshan is a third-year Electrical Engineering student working with postgraduate researchers to complete initial data gathering and modelling of Pacific Island energy systems.

Previous Students

Sam Archie

Sam completed his Masters degree in 2022. He researched multi-criteria optimisation of urban spatial plans. His research helped better plan for sustainable and reslient development and growth in cities. Sam's supervisory team was led by Dr. Tom Logan (University of Canterbury).
